FEEDER PREFERANCES
FEEDER PREFERANCES
Over the years, various styles and types of feeders have come into the market. The feeder preference argument is likely as old as the seed preference for birds but regardless the choice is that of the consumer. Feeder types like the seed that goes in them has a direct impact of the type of bird that visits it.Over the last couple years PROJECT WILDBIRD was a landmark study of seed and feeder preferences of wild birds in the United States and Canada that began in September 2005 and continued through December 2008.
PROJECT WILDBIRD had invited people who feed birds in the United States and Canada to participate in the study by completing an online survey of your backyard feeding experiences. This survey asked people about why they feed birds and what would make the bird feeding experience better. It took approximately 15 minutes to complete and was an ideal format for individuals of all ages with a passion for wild birds to participate. Over the two years of data collecting, a picture began to emerge as to the preference of bird feeders among the wild birds that are most likely to visit our yards.
The following is an insight of the findings by the “Project Wildbird” study you may find interesting.
