Classics Wild Bird Seed

In 1987 the Wild Bird feeding market was just entering its infancy and was becoming the trend among the Baby Boomers.  The popularity of bird feeding continued to grow and now ranks second only to Gardening in outdoor activities.

In 1987 “Feather Treat Seeds” introduced four new wild bird seed blends.  These four basic blends were formulated to cover four key marketing points, affordability, quality, customer needs and value on dollar spent.

Econo Blend -This blend was designed to meet the needs of the low income or as an introductory to wild bird seed blends. Its formula base of Cut Corn makes this mix an affordable and a great winter blend.

Gourmet Blend - This blend was formulated to include some cut corn with additional amounts of sunflowers, peanuts and millets. This combination was to meet the needs for wild birds over winter and into spring.

No Corn Blend -A basic mix of wheat, millets, sunflowers and milo was designed for the consumer who appreciates a no corn blend and yet is offered at the same cost as the Gourmet Blend.

Premium Blend -This blend contains wild bird’s most favored seeds. Dollar for dollar this blend was best valued when it came to seed preference and seed waste

Over the years the mixes have not changed however the packaging design, size and some product name changes were the necessities of the day. Today Classics Wild Bird Seed has led the way for an attractive package design and quality. Classics has expanded their product listing that now includes Oilseed and Striped sunflower as well as a Blended sunflower.  Name Changes include, Econo blend is now called All Seasons and the No Corn is now called the Ultra Blend.

Through the years we have seen some preferred product transitions.  Econo or All Season blend continues to be the largest mover of wild bird seed, yet our Premium mix has gained popularity in the last ten years due to its no waste attributes.

As the market matures we have seen many changes. Consumers are now demanding even better quality of mixes at a fair market price. The marketing of wild bird seed is considering that women are purchasing most wild bird seed products, as well as smaller more manageable and decorative packaging.
