Facts about feeding Caged Birds

Always provide the correct blend of seeds for your bird. Different types of birds require different seeds, therefore it is advisable to purchase pre-blended seeds that will provide the best and most acceptable diet.

Birds such as canaries and finches will eat Canary seed, Nyjer seed, Hemp, Millet seeds and Canola seeds. Larger birds such as cockatoos and parrots will eat larger seeds such as sunflower, peanuts and pine nuts. However, caution is advised when feeding oilseed. Oilseeds such as sunflowers, canola and linseed are higher in calories. Feeding a high diet of these seeds can result in birds becoming overweight.

Always have a fresh supply of clean water available at all times for your birds.
Caged birds always enjoy small amounts of fresh foods such as lettuce, bean sprouts and other soft vegetables as well as samples of fruit such as oranges, apples, peaches, grapes and even tomatoes.

Naturally, birds like to forage for food. This activity not only provides exercise for your bird, but also relieves stress. It also provides a treat or reward. Items such as spray millet and seed sticks are proven treats.

To digest seeds, bird need a supply of grit available.  Their need for grit is to grind the seed into smaller particles so that the body can absorb the nutrients.

Facts About Feeding Caged Animals

Caged animal foods are available as flakes, pellets or seeds. In addition, small amounts of hay, grass, greenery, cabbage, carrots and salad can be fed as treats. The use of natural multi-seed blends will allow your pet to select the food it requires naturally.

Always replace the previous day’s food with fresh food. Do not leave uneaten food in the tray as this could be sa ource of bacteria or other harmful cotangents.

A small animal’s diet should never be changed suddenly.

A small meal twice a day to your caged pet will provide an adequate diet. Overfeeding can cause obesity and ultimately health issues. You should be able to feel the ribs and the back bone. If these can’t be felt, your pet is likely overweight, and you should cut back on their food.

Always keep a supply of fresh clean water available at all times
